The Bull Runners

The Bull Runners

“The hour of departure has arrived, and we go our separate ways, I to die, and you to live. Which of these two is better only God knows” -Socrates

From all over the world people are drawn to Spain to temp death. To run with the bulls in the streets is a time-honored tradition gambling with life and death. The Runners risk their lives just to have bragging rights. However, underneath the bravado there lies the dilemma of who we are in the world and how do we fit in? Man always took risks and the need to test our place in an existential way separates humans from other species.  An essential part of existence is to challenge fear and death. The Runners are a microcosm of man’s innate desire to stretch the limits of the individual. Running with the bulls through the streets may sound foolish, but the ultimate risk of death is the reward of life.
