The predominant theme in my work is exploring contemporary man within the context of the great thinkers, heroes, icons, and images of past ages; to make these ideas visible and profound, I search for subjects about life, death, struggle, and redemption that are rich in visual detail conjuring up the past as it relates to the contemporary world. Many of our experiences with life are a reflection of the past human condition no matter what choices we make. Fundamental to human action is choice and those choices become a reflection of our souls.
These images are meant as metaphors to the mass psychology within our modern existence; they search for a dialogue between emulation and ego, seduction and fear, life and death. We are drawn by cultural icons that impact our lives consciously or subconsciously. Our dependence on social communication and connection does not fill the void that hungers for a larger existential reason for being. For me, these images function as a desire and longing for life’s meaning.
